Azalea Trail Maids wave to the crowd during the Blessing of the Fleet, May 5, 2019, in Bayou La Batre, Alabama. The Azalea Trail Maid program was established in 1949. Every year, 50 high school senior girls are chosen from hundreds of applicants. The girls serve as official ambassadors for Mobile and appear at numerous events. Their dresses, which are custom-made, are meant to mimic the colors of the azalea flower, which blooms throughout the city. (Photo by Carmen K. Sisson/Cloudybright)
