A sign requires masks before entering a business due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Oct. 29, 2020, in Citronelle, Alabama. The statewide mask requirement was implemented throughout Alabama in July, with many other states and countries implementing similar rules to try to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. So far, more than 45 million people have contracted the virus worldwide, and more than 1 million people have died. In Mobile County, more than 17,000 people have contracted the virus, and 319 have died. More than 161,000 have contracted the virus in Alabama, and more than 2,700 Alabamians have died.
