During the steel pickling process, the steel is rinsed with hydrocloric acid and water to remove impurities. Severstal is a Russian company mainly operating in the steel and mining industry. The mini mill in Columbus was built in 2007 and sold in 2014 to Steel Dynamics. Steel Dynamics is the third largest producer of carbon steel products in the United States.
