A girl sits astride her horse and fishes for candy at a Halloween costume party for riders in the Therapeutic Equestrian program, Oct. 29, 2012, in West Point, Mississippi. The program gives riders with physical and emotional disabilities the opportunity to strengthen their muscles and increase their confidence while building skills in horsemanship. Horses have been used as a therapeutic aid since early medical history in Ancient Greece. Because the movement of a horse most closely resembles that of a human gait, the rhythm and motion is effective for physical therapy and is believed to offer mental health benefits as well.
