The Krewe de la Dauphine parade is held annually on the fifth Saturday before Fat Tuesday, marking the official start of Mobile County’s Mardi Gras parade season. Mobile’s first official Mardi Gras celebration was recorded in 1703, making it the birthplace of Mardi Gras in the United States.. Mardi Gras originated as a French tradition of feasting and revelry before the austere Catholic Lent. Mardi Gras officially ends on Fat Tuesday. Lent begins the following day on Ash Wednesday.
