A historic marker gives information about Brown’s Vineyard, Aug. 30, 2021, in Waveland, Mississippi. The resort opened in 1874 and became popular for its scuppernong wine, which was marketed and sold across the United States. The resort was created by German immigrant Frederick W. Braun. At it’s height, the 85-acre vineyard produced 50 barrels of wine per year. The vineyard was forced to close in 1920 due to Prohibition.
