Gulfport Union Station train depot is pictured, May 13, 2023, in Gulfport, Mississippi. The train station was built in 1904 where the Gulfport & Ship Island Railroad and Louisville & Nashville tracks intersected. Amtrak ceased operations at the station in 2005 after the track was damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Plans are currently underway to resume Amtrak service between Mobile and New Orleans, with four stops in Mississippi including Gulfport. The Gulfport station was declared a Mississippi Landmark in 1986. and is a contributing property to the Gulfport Harbor Square Commercial Historic District.
