The USNS Comfort, a Mercy-class hospital ship, provides emergency onsite care of combat forces involved in war and other operations. It also provides mobile surgical hospital service during disaster and humanitarian relief efforts. The USNS Comfort was stationed in New York City in 2020 to assist in medical operations during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ship was originally built as an oil tanker in 1976.
