The Global Orion offshore supply vessel is docked alongside the USNS Comfort Navy hospital ship at Alabama Shipyard, March 25, 2022, in Mobile, Alabama. The USNS Comfort, a Mercy-class hospital ship, provides emergency onsite care of combat forces involved in war and other operations. It also provides mobile surgical hospital service during disaster and humanitarian relief efforts. The USNS Comfort was stationed in New York City in 2020 to assist in medical operations during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ship was originally built as an oil tanker in 1976. It was delivered to the U.S. Navy and converted into a hospital ship in 1987. The $28.9 million repair contract calls for completion by July 28, 2022. (Photo by Carmen K. Sisson/Cloudybright)
