Creole Firehouse #1 is pictured, Aug. 1, 2021, in Mobile, Alabama. The firehouse was built in 1869 and housed Mobile’s first volunteer fire company, which was founded in 1819. The fire company was the center of the local Creole society. The firehouse is now a private residence. It is listed on the Dora Franklin Finley African-American Heritage Trail. (Photo by Carmen K.
