A statue of Captain Daniel Johannes Goos stands along the Lakefront Promenade, Sept. 9, 2020, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Goos is known for bringing the Lutheran faith to Lake Charles and increasing the area’s lumber production by 200 percent, enabling other industries to flourish.
