Headstones featuring photographs and inscriptions honor local recipients of the Purple Heart, May 8, 2021, at Guice Park in Biloxi, Mississippi. The park is named for William Lee Guice Jr., a local soldier who died in World War II. The memorial also includes the superstructure of the USS Biloxi, also known as “Busy Bee” and “Double Lucky.” The Biloxi was decommissioned in 1946 and sold for scrap metal in 1962.
