A historic shotgun house is boarded up and dilapidated in the Central Business District, Sept. 30, 2023, in Mobile, Alabama. Shotgun houses are an architectural style prevalent in the American South from the end of the American Civil War through the 1920s. They are named for their long, narrow style, typically with a front door and back door aligned without hallways in such a way that one has to walk through each room to get to the next room.
