Old Pascagoula High School is pictured, Aug. 24, 2021, in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The school opened in 1939 and closed in 1997. It was designed by Smith & Olschner in the Art Moderne style and was called “the most modern and complete high school unit in the state.” The construction of Old Pascagoula High School was funded by the Public Works Administration. The building was saved from demolition after residents protested plans to demolish it. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a Mississippi Landmark, and was listed among the Mississippi Heritage Trust’s 10 most endangered places in 2005. A portion of the campus is now being used as Bayside Village Senior Apartments. (Photo by Carmen K. Sisson/Cloudybright)
