Totem poles topped by intricately carved wooden birds stand sentry in front of the Jones Archaeological Museum. The museum, located at Moundville Archaeological Park in Moundville, Alabama, features more than 200 artifacts, along with life-size dioramas, and interactive displays. The site was used by the Mississippian culture of Indians between 1000 A.D. and 1450 A.D. There are 26 earthen mounds at the park, which are believed to have been used for religious ceremonies, burials, and residences of influential tribe leaders. (Photo by Carmen K. Sisson/Cloudybright)
