A snowy egret (Egretta thula) perches on a piling in Portersville Bay, Jan. 29, 2023, in Coden, Alabama. The Portersville Bay wetlands, managed through the Forever Wild program, consist of 470 acres of coastal marsh, maritime forest and piney flatwoods. The Forever Wild Land Trust was created in 1992 to acquire wilderness and wetland areas in Alabama for the purpose of protection and conservation.
