A historic marker stands on the former site of the Marietta Johnson School of Education, Oct. 23, 2021, in Fairhope, Alabama. The Organic School was founded in 1907 and was a pre-cursor of whole child education. It emphasized education through natural development rather than competition and eschewed grades and exams. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is now the Fairhope campus of Coastal Alabama Community College. Several of the Organic School’s original buildings remain, including the Bell Building, which houses the Marietta Johnson Museum. (Photo by Carmen K. Sisson/Cloudybright)
