A bronze statue celebrates the education of African-Americans at the Corinth Contraband Camp in Corinth, Mississippi, March 5, 2012. As many as 6,000 former slaves came to the site after the Civil War. Union General Granville Dodge provided them with work as they began their new lives as free men and women.
