Mathieu Junco kitesurfs with a F-One Delta C-shaped Bandit Six kite, October 18, 2015, in Dauphin Island, Alabama. Junco, from France, began kitesurfing five years ago. Windy conditions on the island brought surfers out in droves, but many, like Junco, found that the brisk northerly winds made kitesurfing challenging on the south side of the island. Kitesurfing began in France in the 1980’s and became a mainstream water sport in 1999, combining aspects of wakeboarding, windsurfing, surfing, and paragliding. More than 1.5 million people participate in the global sport. (Photo by Carmen K. Sisson/Cloudybright)
