A headstone stands in Blakeley Cemetery in Historic Blakeley State Park, June 26, 2021, in Spanish Fort, Alabama. The graveyard was the burial site for residents of Blakeley from the early to mid-1800s. Historic Blakeley State Park was created in 1976 on the site of the former town of Blakeley in Baldwin County. The 1,400-acre park is listed on the Civil War Trail due to being the site of the Battle of Fort Blakeley. Prior to becoming the Town of Blakeley, the site was the home of a Native American village. Little remains of the Town of Blakeley, and it is now considered a ghost town. The town was founded by Josiah Blakeley in 1813. The town was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. (Photo by Carmen K. Sisson/Cloudybright)
