The Louisiana state memorial stands alongside a bust of Col. Daniel Adamas of the 1st Louisiana Infantry at Vicksburg National Military Park, July 26, 2019, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The statues are two of the 1,400 monuments and memorials honoring participants of the American Civil War’s Battle of Vicksburg. The Battle of Vicksburg took place from March 29, 1863 to July 4, 1863, resulting in a Union victory. The 1,800-acre park opened in 1899 and is managed by the U.S. National Park Service.
