A ruddy turnstone, a type of sandpiper, carries a seashell plucked from the surf, Aug. 23, 2018, on Mustang Island in Port Aransas, Texas. The ruddy turnstone is named for both its flashy coloring and its tendency to forage in the surf, turning over rocks, shells, and small stones in search of food. (Photo by Carmen K.
