St. Michael is pictured atop the roof of St. Michael Catholic Church, May 22, 2021, in Biloxi, Mississippi. St. Michael’s was established in 1917, with the local fishing families of Point Cadet raising funds, and the current building was constructed in 1964. The distinctive scallop-shell roof pays homage to the area’s seafaring history. The church is often called the Church of the Fishermen. The church, located on Highway 90, was heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina but chose to rebuild rather than relocate. The Modernist stained glass windows, which feature fish, water, nets, and other coastal motifs, were designed by the Emil Frei Company of St. Louis. (Photo by Carmen K. Sisson/Cloudybright)
