A colorful beach house is one of six known as “The Birdhouses” overlooking Bayou Aloe, July 7, 2021, in Dauphin Island, Alabama. The barrier island is home to 1,238 year-round residents and attracts tourists from around the world who come to birdwatch, swim, and enjoy the beach. The entire island has been designated a bird sanctuary. “The Birdhouses” have become somewhat of a symbol for Dauphin Island and often appear in paintings and tourist souvenirs.
