A sign advertises the City of Daphne, Sept. 8, 2022, in Daphne, Alabama. The city was incorporated in 1927, but its earliest inhabitors date to the Paleo-Indian period and Native American tribes around 9000 B.C. The city, located in Baldwin County on the Alabama Gulf Coast, is famous for its jubilees, a naturally-occurring phenomenon whereby fish and other sea life in Mobile Bay are driven to the surface in large numbers as they try to escape oxygen-depleted water. The only other place jubilees are known to occur is Tokyo Bay. For this reason, Daphne is also called “The Jubilee City.” Approximately 21,570 people live in Daphne. (Photo by Carmen K.
