Historic photos hang in the window of Brodie’s Cream & Bean, located in the old State Bank Silverhill building, April 30, 2023, in Silverhill, Alabama. The building, constructed in 1925, served as State Bank Silverhill until deteriorating economic conditions forced it to close in 1933, leaving many local residents in financial ruin. The structure is historically significant as it is constructed in a vernacular style combining Classical Revival with Craftsman and was considered to be essentially “fireproof” due to its construction combining hollow terra cotta tilewith brick veneer. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. (Photo by Carmen K. Sisson/Cloudybright)
