The Battlefield Cross, also known as the Fallen Soldier Battle Cross, is displayed at Patriots Point Memorial, Sept. 8, 2022, in Daphne, Alabama. The Battlefield Cross, made up of a fallen soldier’s belongings, honors the service and sacrifice of a soldier killed in battle. The earliest known Battlefield Crosses were erected during the Civil War to mark the site of a soldier’s body so it could be retrieved and buried later. Patriot’s Point Memorial, located near the Daphne Civic Center annex, is dedicated to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
